Forestburg 2019 Measles Vaccination Update

On May 28, Sullivan County elected to make measles vaccination mandatory for all campers, staff, and volunteer adult leadership attending the many summer camps in their jurisdiction, which includes Forestburg Scout Reservation.

This public health order applies to all our camps and programs at Forestburg Scout Reservation for the 2019 summer season. Those without written evidence of immunity to measles cannot attend camp.

Proof of immunity can be one of the following:

1) Written documentation from a health care provider of one or more doses of a measles-containing vaccine (MMR) administered one or after the first birthday for preschool-age children and adults not at high risk.

2) Two doses of measles-containing vaccine (MMR) for school-age children and adults at high risk, including college students, healthcare personnel, and international travelers. A camper, staff member, or volunteer who is in the process of receiving the measles vaccine, has an appointment to receive the second dose of measles vaccine 28 days after the first dose, and has not been recently exposed to measles may attend camp. Written confirmation from a healthcare provider that lists the 28-day appointment is required as confirmation.

3) Laboratory evidence of immunity to measles, which is called a titer.

4) Laboratory confirmation of a past case of measles. In other words, the individual has had measles.

5) A date of birth before 1957.

The only permitted exceptions are for those medically unable to receive the vaccine, as documented in a signed letter from a physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner.
